Attendance Policy
The Shelby County Board of Education (Policy #6108) believes that regular attendance is a necessary requirement of all students and that any student with the maturity and interest should be included in some phase of the school program.
All students are expected to attend school on each day that school is officially in session. Only the following reasons will be considered for excused absences:
• Illness of student.
• Death or serious illness within the student’s immediate family.
• When the student is officially representing the school in a school sponsored activity.
• Special and recognized religious holidays regularly observed by persons of their faith.
• Legal court summons not as a result of the student’s misconduct.
• Extenuating circumstances over which the student has no control as approved by the principal.
• If necessary, verification is required from an official or other source to justify absences.
All other absences than those outlined above shall be considered unexcused. A written statement, within two (2) school days of the student’s return to school, shall be required from the parent or guardian explaining the reason for each absence.
Make Up Policy
1. Bring official documentation of excused absence to class.
2. You will be responsible for checking the absent work binder, taking assignment, signing for assignment, and turning in work the next day.
3. If you miss a test, you are responsible for talking to me and scheduling the make-up test. In most cases, you will be required to take the test the day you return.
Late Work/Extra Credit Policy
1. Late work is only accepted the next day for 80% credit.
2. If you leave school early for any reason, you are responsible for obtaining the work before you leave and turning it in on time. (sports, school activities, doctor’s appointments, etc.)

I teach students referred by administration to Southwind High Intervention Program (S.H.I.P.) with the assistance of Mr. Key and Ms. Kennedy . The curriculum consists of Gateway Course, End of Course (EOC), ACT Preparation, and modified assignments from assigned classroom teachers. I’m excited to be a part of Southwind High’s third year. Phase three of the new building is complete. We now have grades 9-12 and will graduate our first class of seniors. Yeah!
Go Jaguars! Go!
